  • The Bearded Dragon is a well-known lizard and currently considered one of the best pet lizards. There are eight species of Bearded Dragons, but the most popular one is the Inland or Central Bearded Dragon (Pogona vitticeps), from the arid to semi-arid southeastern parts of Australia, and we will be discussing the Inland Bearded Dragon in this handout.

  • Bearded Dragons come from a habitat where food may be sparse, so they accept a wide variety of different foods. Bearded Dragons are omnivorous, which means that they eat both plant and animal based foods, including insects. They have a sharp eye and keen sense of smell.

  • Bearded Dragons have several unique problems; understanding these problems will allow you to better care for your pet and minimize future health care problems.

  • The Complete Blood Count, usually just called a CBC, is one of the most basic blood tests your veterinarian can request, and yet it is one of the most important tests for determining the health status of a pet. It includes a series of measurements that describe the quantity and quality of the cellular elements in the blood.

  • Cytology is the microscopic examination of cell samples. These samples may sometimes be collected from the surface of the lesion under investigation, but more often, the sample is obtained by use of a special needle.

  • This tumor is a disordered and purposeless overgrowth of modified sebaceous (sweat) glands known as the hepatoid glands. These glands only occur in dogs.

  • When well looked after, and given a good diet and environment, iguanas are reasonably hardy animals. Common conditions of pet iguanas include metabolic bone disease, infectious stomatitis (mouth rot), parasites, respiratory disease, and hypervitaminosis D.

  • Iguanas are mainly herbivorous, meaning they mostly eat plants. Specifically, they are folivores (an animal that feeds on leaves). In the wild, they feed almost entirely on the leaves of trees and vines, plus some fruits or flowers that are not readily available to pet owners.
